TI-84 Not Showing Graph — How to Fix
Your TI-84 Plus CE should display a graph after pressing GRAPH, but the screen is blank. This is one of the most reported issues — and it almost always has a simple fix.
Most Common Causes (Check in Order)
1. The function is deselected
The = sign next to each function in the Y= editor must be highlighted for the graph to display.
Fix: Press Y=, move the cursor to the = sign, and press ENTER to toggle it on.
2. The window is set to the wrong range
If your function exists outside the current window range, the graph is there — you just can't see it.
Fix: Press ZOOM → 6: ZStandard to reset to the default window (−10 to 10). Then press GRAPH again.
3. A stat plot is turned on
If Plot1/Plot2/Plot3 is enabled without data, it causes a blank screen.
Fix:
- Press
Y= - Look at the top row — if
Plot1,Plot2, orPlot3is highlighted, move the cursor there and pressENTERto turn it off - Press
GRAPHagain
4. The function has a syntax error
A typo causes the calculator to skip drawing the graph without showing an obvious error.
Fix: Press Y= and carefully re-read your equation. Make sure you're using X (the variable key), and all parentheses are matched.
5. Wrong graph mode
If set to Polar, Parametric, or Sequence mode, Y= functions won't graph correctly.
Fix:
- Press
MODE - On the row that shows
FUNC PAR POL SEQ, make sure FUNC is highlighted - Press
ENTER, then tryGRAPHagain
6. The line style is set to off
Each function in Y= has a line style selector on the left. If it's set to the "off" style, nothing will draw.
Fix: In Y=, move the cursor all the way to the left of the function. Press ENTER repeatedly to cycle through line styles until you see a solid line.
7. Screen contrast is too low
In rare cases the graph is drawing, but the contrast is too dim to see.
Fix: Press and hold 2ND, then press the ↑ arrow key several times to increase contrast.
